Teachers Forum II: Diversity Training
for Teachers - 29 May 2008
In a follow-up to
our initial meeting, we ran a full day workshop on
Thursday 29 May 2008 on diversity training for
teachers. Courtesy of Pick and Pay, our workshop
took place at their Training Institute in Fourways, Johannesburg where we were privileged to make
used of their excellent facilities. Indeed, many
participants expressed the opinion that the peaceful
atmosphere and splendid food contributed to the
success of the day.
Forty two high school teachers from the Johannesburg
South District attended the workshop which ran from
10:00 to 15:00. Taking place in the aftermath of the
unfortunate outbreak of xenophobic violence, the
workshop appeared to have gone down exceptionally
well with those who attended. They sensed the urgent
need for us in this country to come to grips with
our cultural differences and to convey this message
to the youth
of our land. Afterwards, We received much
appreciated response from officials of this
particular district. (See attached letter). More
workshops of similar nature are being planned for
other districts within the
Gauteng
region. Read letter received from the Gauteng
Provincial Government.
